Alex Theatre St Kilda’s versatile spaces and interesting foyer makes it a perfect place to present all styles of live performance. With 3 different spaces and a foyer lounge that can easily be configured into a space, you are only confined by creativity and physics.
Theatres 1 and 2 offer similar stage dimensions with capacities set from 245-490, allowing for performances to start small and grow bigger. Each room comes with a sound system, basic lighting rig and new laser projector.
The studio is perfect for cabaret, non-conventional theatre, vocal/music recitals and dance. Its’ small stage made of standard rostra can be broken up, or moved around the space and the seating made by freestanding chairs allows for a truly versatile performance space.

In the Vass Theatre Group we create magic on stage and screen every day, and as a global business owner and entrepreneur, Aleksandar Vass OAM has creatively developed a private theatre facility in the heart of St Kilda Melbourne that is now open for your next corporate event.
The Alex Theatre comprises of two theatre spaces, the Blue Room of 245 seats and the Red Room of 490. With tiered lecture style luxury seating, these spaces can host a range of presentations, corporate events, meetings, lectures and ceremonies. In addition to this the Gold Room is a black box studio, with its own private bar, can accommodate workshops, pre or post events, functions and soirees. Then there is the spectacular imagery in the entrance foyer, boutique bar and Private Lounge overlooking Fitzroy Street. All combining to provide a truly unique setting for social gatherings or breakout spaces. Our Private Boardroom is also to host meetings for up to 10 people.
Alex Theatre St Kilda is a great location for shooting photographic work and filming. Our 11mx15m black box studio boasts a fully sprung floor, wall of mirrors and upright piano.
Both theatres are equipped with white theatrical cycloramas (cyc), and black drapes. Each cyc can be used for projection or be covered by black curtains to provide for maximum light absorption.
Alex Theatre St Kilda provides the perfect venue for public or private film screenings, film festivals and film premieres. Both Theatres 1 and 2 now offer new laser digital projectors, great stereo sound and comfortable patron seating. There is also sufficient stage space in front of the projection screen to allow for presentations, introductions and forums.
Our unique foyer lounges and boutique bar will complement your event to give patrons a memorable & enjoyable experience. There is also the option to use the black box studio as a private, post event space with its own bar.
Alex Theatre St Kilda is the ideal venue to present workshops, host auditions and/or run rehearsals for theatre, musicals, dance works & other performance based events. Our 11mx15m studio boasts a fully sprung floor, a wall of mirrors and upright piano.
To give some practical examples: the foyers are ideally used to sign in audition candidates & simultaneously provide a spacious holding area for them; the black box studio is perfect for dance calls whilst both theatres offer generous stage space for vocal calls.
For rehearsals, the black box studio is increasingly in demand for full company work, dance, and workshops. Both theatres can be used for choral rehearsals or small scene work, and our “hall of mirrors” can be used as wardrobe facilities.
Located just 15mins from the CBD, the Alex Theatre St K has ample, nearby car park options and can also be accessed by 3 major tramlines. Couple that with an array of great local coffee haunts, copious casual & restaurant dining cuisines as well as a 7-day supermarket – all of which makes the Alex an irresistible arts hub!
