ROSIE MEADERS

Rosie Meader is a performer and writer from Sydney who has been on stage with her family band since age four. She has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Belvoir St and the Seymour Centre as a member of many ensembles. In 2019 she graduated from the prestigious Talent Development Project, where she presented, workshopped, wrote and recorded musical theatre works under the guidance of industry professionals, most notably her composition ‘Best Of All Me’, recorded at Sony Music. In 2020 she graduated from Brent Street with her Musical Theatre Diploma, after which she completed her course at NIDA’s Actors Studio.

Rosie works closely with her songwriting partner and father, Paul Meader, a prolific musician and composer. In June of 2021, they wrote the music for Rosie’s first musical, ‘Everybody Loves A Wedding,’ which premiered at the Giant Dwarf Theatre. This production was directed and starred in by Rosie and was later revived in 2022 at the Flight Path Theatre to sold-out audiences.

Rosie is currently developing her new piece entitled ‘Spitfire Girls The Musical’ (Music & Lyrics by Rosie & Paul Meader), which tells the inspiring true story of young female pilots during World War II. In July 2022, she produced a ten-day workshop of the musical funded by the Brent Street Inaugural Artist fund of $20,000. She also workshopped this piece as part of the Hayes Theatre’s 2022 SHOWLAB program and received guidance from a panel of Musical Theatre professionals. Spitfire Girls The Musical is set to undergo its second development workshop in November 2023, funded by the Talent Development Project’s annual Mary Lopez Scholarship, of which Rosie is this year’s recipient.

Spitfire Girls The Musical tells the inspiring true story of young female pilots during WW2. Described as Come From Away meets SIX, this theatrical tale straps you into the cockpit beside five female pilots as they fight not only in a war between nations but also against a system that underestimates them at every turn.

Against the backdrop of war-stricken England in 1940, Molly, a young British pilot, Nancy, an Aussie airwoman, Gloria, an American flyer, and Anna, a young Dutch pilot, are recruited to form the first-ever female flying team in history. Despite resistance to this unprecedented action, they soon arrive at Hamble Airfield, Southampton, to begin training under pioneering commander Pauline.

Through an exciting musical score that evokes the Billie Eilish 40’s jazz/folk album you wish existed, these women must face personal, cultural and emotional barriers in a male-dominated world. This prejudice climaxes on September 15th 1940, when England’s airforce, outnumbered two to one, must face earth-shattering odds and unite to win The Battle Of Britain. Molly, Nancy, Gloria and Pauline contribute to what many historians have described as the day Britain won the war. Despite all odds, the women prove their strength, courage and skill, carving their name in history.
